Your PARK(ing) Day Primer.
Ok y’all, tomorrow is PARK(ing) Day! What is PARK(ing) Day you ask?
PARK(ing) Day is an annual, one-day, global event where artists, activists, and citizens collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spots into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public parks.Pretty awesome right? That’s why Troy and I decided to help organize it in the Twin Cities this year. We’re super pumped that there will be 7 to 10 PARK(ing) spots for you to check out and take a load off at tomorrow between 10AM and 3PM. Here are 5 ways you can follow along and get involved:
- Follow us on Twitter where I will be “live-tweeting” throughout the day. Or at least attempting to.
- Check out the PARK(ing) Day Twin Cities 2009 Map to find a PARK near you.
- Go to the after-party at the West Bank Social Center from 5 to 8PM.
- Follow us on Tumblr as we collect all the documentation from tomorrow’s event and start planning for next year. And boy, do we have plans.
- Join the PARK(ing) Day Twin Cities group on Facebook to show your support. We’re already 110 members strong!
Most importantly, just enjoy the day! If you work in Minneapolis, take a stroll through the warehouse district on your lunch break. You might be surprised!
