Walgreens to acquire most Snyder’s Drug Stores
From a single cigar shop that opened in downtown Minneapolis in 1928, to a decent size chain with locations across the Upper Midwest, it looks like the Snyder’s name will cease to exist. Snyder’s sold off the company about a year ago, but you could still find them in sparse locations around the metro. The one I remember going to the most was the Snyder’s Drug Store in Fridley at the Holly Center strip mall. My dentist was in a building right next to the Holly Center, so if I went in to have a filling or something done as a kid, my dad and I would go into Snyder’s afterwards and sit at their lunch counter and have malts.
*sigh* Snyder’s, Dayton’s, Little Jack’s Steakhouse, the “Top Nine at Nine” on WLOL…each day my youth gets a little farther away.
