Love Is The Law - The New Standards

Today the Minnesota House will vote on whether gay couples can get married in Minnesota. If it passes, the Senate is scheduled to vote on the bill on Monday, and Gov. Mark Dayton says he will sign the bill, which would allow weddings between same-sex couples starting on Aug. 1.

Chan Poling of legendary Minneapolis band The Suburbs, proposed that the group’s 1983 hit, “Love Is The Law” become the unofficial theme song for the movement to legalize gay marriage in Minnesota.

Here is a jazz infused cover of Love Is The Law, by Chan’s current group, The New Standards.

Let’s make love the law, you guys.

Vote No 2012 Minnesota - Post Update!

I got an email from James Fish who designed these wonderful shirts, and he wanted me to let you know that the original post I did, was just a mock up example pre-press showing “amendment” misspelled. Fear not, any shirts you order (which you should) will be top notch and typo free.

You can click on the photo to go to James’s Etsy site and order your shirt today!

Exterior sign, Gay 90’s Bar, 408 Hennepin, Minneapolis (1964)

It is Pride Weekend here in Minneapolis and this is my contribution since I won’t be able to make it because I will be at Earle Brown Days in Brooklyn Center tomorrow, and then work on Sunday. So here is a photo of the Gay 90’s back when it was a “straight” burlesque bar back in the day.

Does anyone know when the 90’s “became gay”?
